Book Review: The Three Secret Cities by Matthew Reilly

The Three Secret Cities
by Matthew Reilly
Rating: ★★★★★

“When Jack West Jr won the Great Games, he threw the four legendary kingdoms into turmoil. Now these dark forces are coming after Jack… in ruthless fashion. With the end of all things rapidly approaching, Jack must find the Three Secret Cities, three incredible lost cities of legend. It’s an impossible task by any reckoning, but Jack must do it while he is being hunted…”

As always, I am impressed. This was another incredible book in one of my favourite series’ ever! The Three Secret Cities did not disappoint with a compelling story, great surprises and moments that actually left me breathless with shock in a way only Matthew Reilly’s unique writing can obtain. The energetic writing perfectly illustrates in your mind the way Jack and his team travelled through the three secret cities in a race against the clock to save their loved ones and the world.

In the previous novel, The Four Legendary Kingdoms, Jack West Jr awakes in an underground arena and is forced to compete against other warriors to prove humanity’s worth and prevent a devastating event. Now, after overcoming the trials and escaping with his loved ones, Jack is now under the tremendous task of locating the three lost cities that contain the knowledge needed to prevent the Omega Event. This book was grittier, darker and slightly more violent than the previous novels but I think that portrays just how high the stakes are. Since usually there can be other options or a go-around but with what is on the line and the danger to his loved ones Jack and his team really take no prisoners and leap head first into action.

This book did not disappoint me but I knew it wouldn’t. It’s going to be a long wait to find out what happens next and I’m definitely sad there are only two more books left in to go in the series now but I know it’ll be fantastic and the conclusion will be worth the wait. Matthew Reilly knows how to write an amazing story that never leaves you feeling like there was more to tell so I’m really excited for the next big thing from him as well as his new standalone book coming out soon featuring time-travel! So, I just absolutely loved this book, it was an excellent read and the ending of this book really got me too.
